The Chicago White Sox made four roster moves today.  They activated Paul Konerko off the 7 day disabled list and called up Hector Santiago.  They also placed reliever Leyson Septimo and infielder Orlando Hudson on the 15 day disabled list.

Konerko was sidelined with a concussion he suffered last week.  He passed all of the tests that the doctors gave him and was cleared to play.  On the season, Konerko is hitting .316/.388/.504 with 18 home runs and 54 RBI.  Konerko’s return will be a nice addition to a team that was already hitting a lot of home runs lately.  I am sure manager Robin Ventura will use Konerko as the designated hitter for the first few games to ease him back into action.

Santiago, who was sent down to AAA Charlotte a few weeks back, was working as a starting pitcher and was pitching very well.  In 3 starts, he pitched 14.2 innings without giving up any runs with 13 strikeouts.  Santiago will be relied on with Matt Thornton being called upon quite a bit lately.  The other lefty in the bullpen is Donnie Veal, who had an impressive game the other night.

Hudson went on the DL after fouling a ball off of his big toe Wednesday in a game against the Toronto Blue Jays.  This means that Rey Olmedo is the back up infielder at the moment for the White Sox.  That is at least until teams can make September call ups.

Septimo has had a weird stint with the big league club.  In 9 innings pitched with the White Sox, Septimo has only given up 3 hits and struck out 8, but has walked 6 and allowed 6 runners to score.  That gives him an ERA of 6.00 in the majors this season.  There is some speculation that the Sox put him on the DL with bicep inflammation because he is out of options and this way they would be able to keep him and activate him when the rosters expand on September 1.
