Colorado Rockies Manager Jim Tracy Has Seen Enough
To say it was the Colorado Rockies most ridiculous loss is impossible, just their most recent. The Colorado Rockies fell to the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-7, after holding 3-0 and 4-1 leads. The Rockies fell behind in the eighth after giving up runs in four consecutive innings, but had a rally in the eighth to tie the game at seven. Closer Rafael Betancourt ultimately gave a two run homerun to Justin Upton in the ninth to seal the Rockies fate, as they could not score with the bases loaded and no one out.
The Rockies pitching woes continued as the squad threw 222 pitches and gave up 13 hits in the loss. Starter Juan Nicasio made it only 4 and two-thirds innings, with five of the teams nine walks. Five of the seven relievers who pitched in the game gave up a run, the two who did not only pitched a third of an inning each. Matt Belise, with the Bullpen’s lowest ERA among players with more than three starts, gave four hits.
Unfortunately, this Thursday afternoon example is just a microcosm of the entire pitching staff for the season. With an Earned Run Average of 5.00, the Rockies rank second highest in the league, with the Minnesota Twins at 5.25. The team’s starters only have seven wins, fewest in Major League Baseball. The Rockies also have the highest WHIP (walks/hits in innings pitched) as well
Manager Jim Tracy has been criticized for his role, by “mishandling” his pitchers. But with starters that cannot go seven innings and a bullpen that is overworked, he has not had a ton of options. Tracy was disgusted in his postgame press conference.
“We can’t pitch any worse than that,” Tracy said, We are creating so many ridiculous situations for ourselves… Bad two-strike pitches, walks, opportunities for singles to produce runs.”
He like most fans seems at a loss to find a solution, “We should have won it, in a much better fashion than the drama and theatre that built up as we went on.”
The Rockies head into an interleague series with the win against the Seattle Mariners tomorrow. The Rockies have turned Coors Field back into a hitter’s haven, where no lead is safe. The Rockies are currently 15-22, nine games out of first in the National League West.

The Colorado Rockies need to be reminded,(especially the pitchers ) that they are being PAID to play. Start acting like professionals. Jason Hammel away from Apodoca is 5-1. Why don’t we realize the problem and get rid of it.
