No Holdout For New York Giants WR Victor Cruz?
(The Star-Ledger/US PRESSWIRE)

Victor Cruz emerged as one of the league’s top wide receivers during the 2011 season and it’s safe to say the rest of the 31 teams in the NFL regret not bringing the former Massachusetts when the New York Giants brought him on board as an undrafted free agent back in 2010. After making just $405,000 in 2011, there’s no question Cruz deserves a hefty raise and should be paid more than some of the top wide receivers in the NFL, but the Giants have yet to give him a new deal as teams prepare for OTA’s and the upcoming NFL Draft at the end of the month.

Either way, no matter what happens over the next couple of months, Cruz has made one thing clear to Giants fans–don’t expect a holdout.

According to Dan Hanzus of NFL.com, Cruz told Ebenezer Samuel of the New York Post that holdout isn’t even in his “vocabulary” while attending an event in New York to display the new NFL Nike uniforms for the 2012 season. Many wondered if Cruz would take a similar approach as other NFL players in the past looking for a big pay raise by holding out during training camp, but Cruz has made it clear since the Super Bowl that won’t be the case.

Victor Cruz on the word "holdout"... " that's not even in my vocabulary. I don't even know what that means."

After catching 82 passes for 1,536 yards to go along with nine touchdowns last season, it’s safe to say the Giants are smart enough to realize how valuable Cruz is to the offense and how foolish it would be to make him unhappy–especially after defeating the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI. As crazy as it sounds, Cruz may actually live up to his word and decide not to holdout if a new deal isn’t in place before training camp.

That–or Cruz is just confident enough that the organization will come through for him well before then.
