NFL Rumors: New England Patriots Interested in Plaxico Burress?
Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE

The New England Patriots are apparently never quite content with their situation at wide receiver. They experimented with Chad Johnson last year, to no avail, brought in Brandon Lloyd this offseason and are now bringing in former New York Jets receiver Plaxico Burress for a workout.

Free-agent WR Plaxico Burress is flying today to New England to work out for the Patriots, the team he helped beat in SBXLII. More on ESPN.

I wonder if Tom Brady is OK with the idea of the man who took away his ring in 2007 catches passes from him?

Knowing Brady, he’ll likely put the past behind him. But also knowing Brady, it will eat him up. Brady is one of the most competitive players in the NFL, which is part of the reason he’s won three rings and nearly won another two. Burress caught the game-winning touchdown that robbed Brady of his fourth ring in his fourth try, helping the Giants cap off one of the greatest upsets in Super Bowl history.

Burress has fallen from grace since then and has spent the entire 2012 offseason looking for work. After spending two years in prison for shooting himself in the leg in a night club, he played for the Jets last season. He had 45 catches for 612 yards and eight touchdowns; he even had some consideration for comeback player of the year.

Either his off-the-field issue or the fact that he turned 35 today is keeping teams away from him. He did talk with the Dallas Cowboys recently, but other than rumors there have been no real contract discussions with teams this year.
