San Jose’s Antti Niemi Returning to Chicago
For those in Chicago it’s a dream and for Sharks fans it’s a nightmare but no worries Sharks fans if Antti Niemi returns to Chicago it’s only to take on the Chicago Blackhawks in the post-season.
On Thursday the Sharks will be on the road to battle the Kings in their home castle. A win for San Jose over Los Angeles would put them on the top in their division and into third place in the Western Conference.
The series is currently tied at two wins each in what has been a back and forth battle. The Kings won the last matchup between the two at home.
The home team has also won every game so far in this matchup which mean these next two games could go beyond who does and who doesn’t make the playoffs. If both these teams make the playoffs and end up playing each other home ice advantage could make the difference on who advances closer to winning the Stanley Cup.
One of the Sharks best objectives lately in their fight back toward the post-season has been their goaltending. Sharks goaltender Antti Niemi has been on a hot-streak his last five games. Never allowing more than two goals in a single game and his lowest save percentage in one game was a .926.
With his 1.4 goals against average and .953 save percentage in his last five games Niemi is the Shark that all his others will be able to count on and even more so if his defense can keep the puck out of their zone.
In Niemi’s four games against the division rival Kings he has been scored on nine times and has a .932 average save percentage in their four meetings.
If he can keep his current hot streak going the Sharks should have no problem making the playoffs or even taking their division. This would put them in the third place spot in the Western Conference and possibly playing against Niemi’s old team in Chicago where he won the Stanley Cup two year ago.
