Sometimes situations arise that are just too ironic for words.

According to sources, former LSU Tiger football players Jarrett Lee and T-Bob Hebert are set to be Grand Marshals, representing Metairie, Louisiana’s Zeus Krewe during Mardi Gras.

You might think: Why is this ironic?

Here’s why. Both Lee and Hebert did not play at all during the BCS National Championship– the reasons why are a little murky. Rumors exploded following the National Championship game that Hebert, Russell Shepherd and members of the coaching staff were a part of a heated argument with Les Miles about whether or not Jordan Jefferson should get the start at quarterback over fifth-year senior Jarrett Lee.

Lee didn’t take a snap in the National Championship game, in spite of the poor performance by Jordan Jefferson, and instead wasted away on the LSU bench without even the chance to turn things around for a Tigers offense that was stagnant and ineffective. Hebert never saw the field– why is anyone’s guess.

Other rumors suggested that Jordan Jefferson in fact out the night before the National Championship game at Harrah’s casino in New Orleans and performed poorly given his lack of preparation and rest.

Both Lee and Hebert were asked to be a part of the Zeus Krewe prior to the season– and the controversy surrounding comments made by Bobby Hebert following the National Championship loss could not have been predicted–but it sure seems funny that two of the most confounding Tigers are the face of the program in one of the state’s biggest celebrations.

I sincerely doubt that all Tigers fans will be cheering them– and not giving the No. 1 salute– when their float passes.

Just a hunch.
