The Chicago Bears played their 4th and final preseason game yesterday, but only the back-ups played. So, I decided to change it up … I have decided to predict the Bears’ 53-man roster. Rosters have to be down by 53 by today at 8 p.m. Central. Here’s my prediction:
QB: Jay Cutler, Jason Campbell – I think there’s a slight chance Josh McCown does make the team, but I think he’s looking from the outside in right now. I think if the Bears do need a 3rd string QB, they can find someone else that will do the same or better than McCown, if he doesn’t sign with another team.
RB: Matt Forte, Michael Bush, Armando Allen – The 3rd string RB was down to Allen and Lorenzo Booker, but I think Allen just played better than Booker.
WR: Brandon Marshall, Devin Hester, Earl Bennett, Alshon Jeffery, Eric Weems, Dane Sanzenbacher – This is very obvious, especially after the release of Rashied Davis.
TE: Kellen Davis, Matt Spaeth, Evan Rodriguez, Kyle Adams: The Bears like to go with 4 TE and they all seem to be worth a roster spot. I do expect 4 TE once again this year.
OL: Gabe Carimi, Chris Williams, Roberto Garza, Chris Spencer, Lance Louis, Chilo Rachal, Edwin Williams, J’Marcus Webb, Corey Brandon – OL is hit and miss as no one really stands out. So, OL is pretty hard to predict of whom will make the team.
DL: Julius Peppers, Israel Idonije, Shea McClellin, Matt Toeaina, Nate Collins, Chauncey Davis, Henry Melton, Stephen Paea, Cheta Ozougwu – One guy that I think will be cut loose is Corey Wooton. I think his time may be up as he’s injury-prone and under performs.
LB: Brian Urlacher, Lance Briggs, Nick Roach, Blake Constanzo, Geno Hayes, J.T. Thomas – I think the Bears may add an extra LB with the injury to Urlacher.
DB: Charles Tillman, Tim Jennings, DJ Moore, Kelvin Hayden, Greg McCoy – I’m not sure who’ll make the team as a DB, but there wasn’t much competition.
S: Chris Conte, Craig Steltz, Major Wright, Anthony Walters, Jeremy Jones – I think the Bears will keep an extra safety on the roster since safety is an injury-prone position for the Bears.
ST: Robbie Gould, Adam Podlesh, Patrick Mannelly, Ryan Quigley – I think the Bears will keep 2 punters on the roster. Since the Podlesh injury and we don’t know how the injury progress is going.
I know I won’t get the 53-man roster right, but it’s fun to try and predict the players that may make the team.
Don’t forget, rosters must be set by 8 p.m. Central tonight!

Seems you left out the TEs?
Kellen Davis, Matt Spaeth, Kyle Adams and Evan Rodriguez would total 53 including your bolded players.
I would like to agree with you on the QB, but seems like the Bears are intent on keeping McCown. Especially after cutting Matt Blanchard as teams usually keep a developmental player as their 3rd QB, not a grizzled veteran.
Agreed on the RB and WR selections although it would be nice to find a way to keep Booker around.
Like you said, OL is tough to predict, but I think they only keep 8. Webb, Carimi, Chris Williams, Lance Louis and Garza are all but locks. I think Edwin Williams, James Brown and Chilo Rachal take the other 3 spots. Chris Spencer is not worthy of being the highest paid OL on the team when Edwin Williams is a capable backup Center.
You have the right number of DL, but I’ll have to disagree with the final 3. Peppers, Idonije, McClellin, Melton, Paea and Toeaina are locks. I think the other 3 slots go to Price, Ozougwu and Wooten. He gets one last shot since he’s still on his rookie deal and can move inside to DT as a last resort.
LB are all correct but Adibi will stay instead of J.T. Thomas. Unless the Bears keep an extra LB.
The 5 CBs are spot on, but I think Wilhite also stays. Only 4 S will be kept since Hayden can play the position if needed. Jones will likely be kept on the practice squad.
Will be interesting to see results by end of the day…
I knew I forgot one, yes I do have all 4 of those TE making the team. McCown has been let go. I was down to Adibi and Thomas, but went with Thomas. Adibi has been let go too. Booker will be kept as 3rd string and Ozougwy has made the team.
