Tressel or Childress? The Answer to the QB Question Can Come With the Hire in Indianapolis.
With the Championship weekend, the Colts and their fans find themselves in an unknown situation. Usually they either just lost or they are playing in this game. As the Ravens play at the Patriots for the right to play in Indianapolis, the Colts are sitting with no head coach and more questions than a freshman in high school.
Rumors are flying that former head coach of the Ohio State buckeyes, Jim Tressel is not only a candidate but also a front runner for the head coaching job in Indianapolis. This bring up the question, is Tressel ready to be an NFL head coach? He has no head coaching experience at this level and is coming off the Ohio State controversy, which led to his resignation. However, Tressel was successful in college with more than one school. He was winner of two I-AA championships, and had two BSC National Championship appearances. Some college coaches have come to the NFL and have success, while many have not. There is no doubt that Tressel is an offensive guy and could bring a whole different attitude and passion to the Colts, which they are lacking.
Brad Childress is another available coach the Colts have talked about and are interested in. Brad Childress was head coach of the Minnesota Vikings before being replaced in the middle of the 2010 season. Childress has been known for his offensive schemes and could benefit the Colts tremendously.
Whoever the Colts decide to pick as their next head coach, the decision will come early in the week, according to owner Jim Irsay.
Whichever coach they hire may very well decide who will be quarterback. If Tressel is hired expect Peyton Manning to be out the door and if Childress is hired expect Manning to stay. Childress has worked with and was successful with Brett Favre later in his playing career. Childress would prefer to start the experienced future hall of famer and with his knowledge of the game mixed with Manning’s perfectionist attitude, it would be the best situation for Colts fans. Meanwhile, Tressel would be more eager to work with a younger quarterback he could mold into the type of quarterback needed to win in the NFL.
This coaching decision is just another twist to the never ending drama with the Colts.

No Contest, Definitely Tressel over Childress. Childress is a control freak that doesn’t listen to anyone elses idea, and his so-called great offensive schemes are so predictable that I can sit here in my home and tell you what play they are going to call next when he was the coach of the Vikings. The Vikings won in 2009 because of Favre, and in spite of Childress, not because of Childress. Tressel is truly a class act in spite of what people’s perception is of him. He truly is a man with great ethics, moral character, and is being very unfairly portrayed in what happened at OSU. He did not advise OSU about the NCAA violations because he was told by an attorney that doing do would compromise a Federal investigation. His intent was to let the investigation complete and the subsequent indictments occur, and when it was no longer compromising the investigation, he was then going to report the violations to OSU and the NCAA. Problem is, the violations were found out prior the the completion of the Federal investigation. Indy would be lucky to get Tressel as their head coach. He will surround himself with good assistant coaches and Indy will soon be a winning class act again.
