Joe Son demonstrates how you stay in prison
For awhile, Joe Son was known as the guy who fought in the UFC and got repeatedly punched in the balls by Keith Hackney. Then he was in the Austin Powers movie, playing a parody of the Oddjob character from James Bond. Unfortunately, Joe Son went from being a mildly amusing footnote in sports history to Exhibit A in the epidemic of athletes who commit serious crimes. In the last few years, he was arrested and convicted in a sex torture attack that took place in 1990. He was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
Now Joe Son is suspected of killing his cellmate a month or so after starting to serve time. Considering that Son had been sentenced to a life sentence anyway this makes little difference to his future, but that parole possibility is not looking good. It’s just too bad that stories about athletes killing people, getting drunk and killing people with their cars, beating spouses, raping people, etc. have become commonplace.

The cellmate was a sex offender, so this isn’t as horrible as people might orginially think. That being said, there’s clearly something wrong with this guy. Hopefully he’s regarded as a dangerous offender and never gets out of jail.
I haven’t looked into this latest story to get the details, but I’m wondering if some hack journalist will start some kind of “Joe Son, the perfect example of an MMA fighter” storyline to badmouth the sport.
Also, did he have a history of crime before getting nailed in the balls? I wonder if successive nut shots like that can do something to your brain?
Well, the crime was committed in 1990. Son’s 1st fight was in 1995 (presumably he had been involved in martial arts prior to that). I agree with the good Chuckie on this. Clearly there’s something wrong with this guy, and whatever his hobby was, he would have done something heinous.
