Charles Barkley is Tired of Broncos QB Tim Tebow
While most NFL fans have hopped on the Tim Tebow bandwagon over the last couple of weeks as the Denver Broncos have gone 6-1 under center, there are still plenty of haters out there that can’t wait for Tebowmania to come to an end. Apparently, one of those haters is former NBA star and current TNT analyst Charles Barkley–who claims he is “Tebowed out” and hopes the Chicago Bears can put an end to the madness on Sunday.
On Friday, Barkley was a guest on The Waddle & Silvy Show on ESPN 1000 and presented his personal plea for the Bears to stop the madness that’s been surrounding Tebow over the couple of weeks. Even without trying, Tebow has taken the national media world by storm whether it has to do with his performance on the field or simply the latest craze of “Tebowing” and Sir Charles–who has never been afraid to speak his mind–just wants it all to end.

“I want to make a personal plea to Lance Briggs, Brian Urlacher, Mr. [Julius] Peppers, please stop the madness,” Barkley said Friday on “The Waddle & Silvy Show” on ESPN 1000. “I’m just so tired … I like Tim Tebow. He seems like a good kid, and I wish him success, but I am Tebowed out. So this is my personal plea for you three guys, please stop this madness.”
On the bright side, at least Barkley was kind enough to praise Tebow a little bit and wish him the best of luck, but it’s understandable why he’s “Tebowed out” considering nobody can watch Sportscenter or go to a site without seeing the quarterback’s name. Of course, it’s stuff like this that motivates Tebow to succeed–so the Bears can blame Barkley if they lose on Sunday.

Denver is winning because a dynamic, not a hall of famer, player and personality has lifted the level of play on the entire team. This isn’t the only time in history that it’s happened. It happens in all walks of life. Business as well as sports have been affected in the same way. Does Lee Iacocca ring a bell? Certain people have the ability to influence a whole group of people, by thier passion and drive. Tebow is one of those people. Tebow just happens to be a Christian and some people can’t handle that. If he were a Budhist, are Muslim the media would love it. It just isn’t PC to be a Christian anymore. What a shame.

I like Tebow, but is he the greatest? No. Does he have a Superbowl ring? Does he have a Conference Championship? Has he won a playoff game? Last time I checked, No. So when he has four rings like Bradshaw, then you can make that comparison, until then, let them play the game. Tebow is a great role model, which is desperately needed in sports today. Besides that, it is too early to say much else.
The knock on Bradshaw initially was the he not bright enough to be a pro quarteback. He proved them wrong.
Need I remind all of you that Vick paid his price for his crime. And yes I am a christian. I have the utmost respect for Teddow as a brother in Christ. And I take issue with those that don’t like him based on his christian beliefs, much like the dislike for Mr. Romney as a presidential candidate. These guys are young with access to more than they can handle. Remember your talking about early to mid 20 year olds here. Some of the stuff I got away with in those years makes me nervous to think about today. They are guilty of making terrible decisions not thuggery. For example, Plaxico Burress. His situation was a case of stupidity/bad decision making. There may be a couple true thugs that made it over time. But trust me, it’s rare. And just because you came from a poor neighborhood or you are black playing professional sports does not make you a thug.
I believe you are confusing the players emulation of (commercial)hip hop culture (partying, being a bad ass)as them actually being “real” thugs. Just like kids in well to do communities emulate the youth culture as well. They make bad decisions sometimes. But they aren’t thugs. Just young and unwise.
